Artist Statement:
Each bird I carve is totally individual. Working with wood adds an organic quality to my work, every piece of wood is different, and therefore every carving I produce has its own unique charm. I use reclaimed pine, the grain of this particular wood compliments the birds form and plumage creating a realistic natural result. The bases are salvaged flotsam and jetsum, these often spark a suggestion of a particular bird, they also add an extra sculptural quality to the work.
