Mungo Powney studied at Newcastle College of Art and now lives and works in France, “I view myself in the tradition of the Nabis trying to feel colour rather than just observe it. When I paint I am constantly planning several layers of different colour in order to match the power of the colour in front of me. I think that a good painting should be rather like a battery in which the artist has trapped a certain power.” His paintings richly burst from the canvas, so full of life are they, painted with complete confidence and an understanding of colour and form.
