Claire Loder's ceramic heads have a compelling power. Larger than life-size, pairs of piercing eyes stare out from the row of heads lined along the wall. The eyes seem to follow you around. The amorphous, almost baggy, forms of the heads sometimes transform into vessels. The delicate painted details of eyes, nose and mouth contrast with the white undulating surface of the form with pink colouring to suggest, almost schematically, the quality of flesh or the shape of a head.
