"My beach paintings are concerned with a feeling of space in a vast expanse. I am fascinated by reflections on the thin film of water left by a retreating tide, and how these change with the sunlight and clouds. From a cliff top, the reflections of people far below are elongated, dripping down the canvas. I'm interested in the relationships between the figures, and in their solitude. I want to capture their smallness in such a huge, flat expanse; their freedom to run and roam through the landscape; and to find privacy even in a public space.” Hannah Davies
